Plans for expansion at a manufacturing company in Crewkerne will allow continued growth, prosperity and secure the company’s future in a globally competitive market. Rotalink Ltd at Cropmead Industrial Estate will be able to bring its whole operation under one roof, with planning permission recently granted for an extension to an existing building, that will provide extra factory floor space for new and improved larger machinery and accommodate the company’s warehouse.
The alterations also include some demolition of temporary buildings at the site and will provide a service yard with access for deliveries and collections and deal with recycling of waste, with a new storage area accommodating three skips and two large wheelie bins. The existing entrance will be retained, together with an increase of five parking spaces for disabled and visitors, staff parking at the rear and an increase in cycle spaces from four to six.
Crewkerne Town Council were unanimous in recommending approval of the planning application, with councillor Robin Pailthorpe stating that: “More area for plant would increase production and accommodate more employees.” Rotalink currently employ 50 full time and eight part-time workers. The alterations and extension at the Cropmead site will accommodate an extra six full time and two part-time employees. It is understood that the larger machinery will not require additional staff and operations from other local factories will be accommodated when the building work is completed.
South Somerset District Council granted permission when they approved the planning application on December 20th. Certain conditions have been imposed, mainly that no trees are felled between March 1st and August 31st due to birds nesting. Bird boxes must be installed in replacement trees planted and all building work must cease if bats are discovered roosting at the site, although the consultee ecologist felt that the potential of finding bats was negligible. A Public Right Of Way (PROW) which runs adjacent to the site must not be altered. Rotalink Ltd are a Crewkerne based, market driven, supplier of miniature power transmission and control products to a global network of customers that demand world class performance.
