Rebel Runners received five nominations for the Dave Carter Memorial Trophy at their annual awards evening, held in Oscars wine bar. The club’s main award, voted for by members and awarded for persistence, determination and commitment to the club, as well as their running, is in memory of fellow runner and special friend Dave Carter who tragically passed away in April 2017.
The nominees for the memorial trophy were Donna Berry, Shell Lawrence, Scott Purdy, Adam Tanner and Sarah Woods. The winner was Sarah Woods. Adrian East and Kay Perren who founded the Rebel Runners running club in January 2017 said: “It was very close with five nominees for our special award but greatly deserved by Sarah.”
Other awards presented at the annual ceremony were for Most Entertaining Photo – won by Becky Blunn which showed her preparing for the Easter Bunny 10K, the PB-er of the Year to Melissa Mitchell with 15 personal bests recorded. The award for the person who completed the most miles in their club shirt/vest in any race, social inter-club run, park run (one a month counted) and club Rampage 5K was won by Shell Lawrence with 337.4 km (209.6 miles) recorded. The Best Looper given to the person best at looping, encouraging others to loop and keeping the group together was Scott Purdy.
Scott Purdy was also presented with the award for Top Spotter – spotting the most club runners out training, with the top spotting place declared as South Street followed by Kithill and Merriott. The Rebel Runner spotted out training most in club colours, two points if in club colours and only one point if not, was Kay Perren with 54 points and 29 spots. Adrian and Kay said: “Congratulations to all our winners and everyone nominated and well done to everyone in the club for your achievements during 2018. Be it returning to running, improving on your running and personal goals and especially to all those who only started running this time last year. Rebel Runners would also like to say thank you to Richard Hall for allowing us to host our annual awards evening at Oscars.”
