PLANS TO DIVIDE VACANT STORE INTO THREE SEPARATE RETAIL UNITS

Plans to divide the former convenience store in Falkland Square into three separate retail units have been submitted to South Somerset District Council. Owners of the large retail space agreed to lease approximately 4,500 sq ft of the vacant accommodation to Savers Health & Beauty Limited, at the end of last year. The new health and beauty products discount store is expected to open for business in early March and posters advertising job vacancies are currently displayed in the store’s window.

The planning application recently submitted for the refurbishment and subdivision of retail space with altered access, relates to the remainder of the vacant accommodation at 16 Falkland Square. The property which has been marketed since the Budgens branded store closed in March 2017, has failed to attract any interest from a single occupier to take on the lease for the whole unit, which covers approximately 15,000 sq ft over the ground and first floor.

The three retail units would each have a separate level access to them and the owners of the property are hopeful that the two remaining units, left vacant when Savers opens, will be occupied by the end of 2019.
