Residents, friends and visitors enjoyed a fun time at The Orchards on Open Day. The social occasion at the purpose-built care and nursing home run by Amica Care Trust began with a coffee morning and continued after lunch with live entertainment from Daisy Chain Productions, an entertainment company based in Bristol and headed by singer Daisy Alexandra. Residents, staff, trustees and guests clapped along to hits from the 1960’s. These included Mama Said a 1960 hit for The Shirelles, Be My Baby -The Ronettes 1964 and Lulu’s hit from the same year Shout. Daisy also sang Rock’n Roll numbers originally by Chubby Checker, which encouraged a few members of staff to get up and demonstrate the Twist.
Fans of long running TV soap opera Coronation Street were able to meet and chat to former character Elaine Fenwick. TV, film, theatre actress and comedienne Pippa Hinchley played the part of Elaine 1993 -1994, the assistant manager at the Weatherfield branch of Bettabuys supermarket and second in command to Curly Watts played by actor Kevin Kennedy. Pippa is a personal friend of The Orchards Activities Coordinator Sam Lloyd. The Open Day ended with a cheese and wine evening, which proved to be just as successful as the earlier activities and was enjoyed by everyone at The Orchards.
