APPEAL FOR WITNESSES TO CAR THEFT AND MOVEMENTS BEFORE POLICE CAR CHASE

Avon and Somerset Constabulary are appealing for witnesses to a car theft and the movements of the driver and passenger before they were apprehended by Police after a Police car chase that ended when the vehicle crashed at Reckleford in Yeovil at 1 pm on Sunday February 24th. The Audi A3 was stolen from Rivermead garage in Crewkerne at around 3.30 am on Sunday morning. In a statement from Avon and Somerset Constabulary, Police said: ” Patrolling officers saw the vehicle travelling on the A30 at about 12.50 pm but the driver failed to stop. Officers followed the vehicle with the support of the police helicopter. A stinger device was deployed to deflate the car tyres but the driver continued.”

The stolen Audi A3 reached speeds of up to 100mph as it travelled through Roundham and Crewkerne town centre before it crashed into four vehicles believed to be stationary in Yeovil. Two 18 year olds were apprehended by Police and taken into custody the same day. Both were brought before Somerset Magistrates at Yeovil on Monday. The male driver was ordered to be sent to Taunton Crown Court for sentence on March 22nd. Matters against the female passenger were adjourned until March 29th, when she was ordered to return to court at Yeovil to be sentenced by Somerset Magistrates.
