A record number of cars were washed to raise money for the Firefighters Charity on Saturday March 23rd. Although the exact number of vehicles is uncertain, a spokesman for Crewkerne Fire Station said: “I would think it was about 120 cars and we raised £570 from bucket donations on the day, but the totals won’t be all in for a while.”
Last year Crewkerne firefighters washed 100 vehicles and were the highest raising one pump station for the charity event in the Devon & Somerset Fire and Rescue Service. The annual event was part of the National Car Washing League. Firefighters across the country gave up their free time, equipped with soap, sponges, buckets and water hoses to raise money for the Firefighters Charity.
The Firefighters Charity actively supports firefighters in the UK, who are in need of assistance due to injury, illness or psychological trauma. The charity provides assistance to serving and retired firefighters and their dependents. Crewkerne Fire Station would like to thank everyone who came to support the car wash and the crew who gave up their free time, to clean the constant row of vehicles, waiting outside of the George Reynolds Centre.
