Preparations are underway to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Crewkerne Junior Triathlon on Sunday July 7th. The annual event which takes place in the Crewkerne Aqua Centre and on the Henhayes field, for safety and security, is organised by the Crewkerne Triathlon Management Group. Crewkerne’s Junior Triathlon is open to children from 8 years to 15 years of age. Activities include swimming, cycling and running.
Distances which competitors are required to swim, cycle and run are set for each age group. There are four age categories; 8 yrs, 9-10 yrs, 11-12 yrs and 13-15 yrs. Minimum distance requirements for an 8 year old entrant are set at 25m for swimming (one length of the pool) 600m for cycling and 300m in the running section. All the competitors will receive a souvenir t-shirt and medal with the winners awarded trophies.
A spokesperson for the management group said: “It is intended to be a fun event for junior athletes, which engenders friendly competition. It should be enjoyed by the last finishers as much as by the winners.” Entry forms are available from Crewkerne Aqua Centre and from the LIC in the town hall. They can also be downloaded from www.aboutcrewkerne.co.uk/junior-triathlon Competition fees are £8 per entrant which includes membership to the British Triathlon Federation during the competition.
