NEWS IN BRIEF & DIARY DATES

The first of a series of Guided Walks around the town, organised by Crewkerne Museum, takes place on Tuesday June 25th at 10 am. The group will meet first at the museum for tea or coffee and take a look around the museum’s galleries before setting off on the historical trail. On the walk, they will learn what the town centre was like over 100 years ago. The second guided walk around Crewkerne’s town centre will be held in the evening on Tuesday August 6th at 6 pm, to give those working an opportunity to enjoy discovering the town’s history. The last in the series of this year’s Guided Walks around the town, will take place at 6 pm on Tuesday September 17th and will include Market Street, Abbey Street and Church Street. Booking for all walks must be made in advance at the museum as numbers are limited and cost £4 per ticket.

An afternoon of light music entertainment for all the family, takes place in the enchanting walled gardens of the Speedwell in Abbey Street on Saturday June 29th from 2 pm until 5 pm. Six great acts, covering pop, country and classics will perform live. Artistes performing include Jan McNeill, Julian Dawson, Len O’Connor, Victoria Starr, Jackie Setter, Somerset Community Choir and Severalls Crewners. Refreshments will be available and people are welcome to bring a picnic and chairs with them. A charity discounted performing rights licence has been kindly granted by PPL PRS.

The afternoon event includes the Summer Fete draw, offering a range of prizes with the 1st prize of £100 donated by Crewkerne Fencing & Gate Company, 2nd prize – Sunday lunch to the value of £30 donated by Haselbury Mill and 3rd prize of a hamper donated by Andy and Lesley Relf. Tickets for Music In The Garden At Speedwell are available from the LIC at the town hall, adults £5 and children under 14 years of age £2.50. They will also be available at the gate on the day, adults £6 and children £3.
