NEW U3A COMMITTEE LOOKS FORWARD TO BRILLIANT FUTURE

Members of Crewkerne & District U3A rallied round to underline their support at an extra-ordinary general meeting in the George Reynolds Centre. 150 members attended to elect a new committee, which had not been possible at the groups annual general meeting in June. Six new committee members were elected – Mike and Viv Wiles, Caroline Mortimer, Jane Gifford, Sue Cannell and Jonathan Robinson and five committee members – Sheila Seymour (chairperson), Stephen Shipley (treasurer), Anne Bright (membership secretary), John Bartholomew (events) and Maggie Hewson (newsletter editor) were reappointed to their posts.

Chairperson Sheila Seymour said: “I have been touched by the many messages of encouragement and support I have received and by the amazing number of people who attended the meeting. People came along at the end of the meeting to say thank you and well done. Things have been tough but members can be reassured that the future promises to be brilliant. We now have a committee that has more than doubled in size and we have new blood which will give us more energy and new ideas. I am confident that normal service will not just be resumed, it looks to me as if it is going to get a whole lot better.”
