A calendar event for steam engine enthusiasts and families looking to get a glimpse of an historic mode of rail transport has been announced by UK Rail Tours. The Atlantic Coast Express hauled by the steam engine, the 35028 Clan Line, will pass through Crewkerne Railway Station on Saturday August 10th. The steam locomotive is scheduled to leave London Waterloo at 07:45 hrs, picking up tour passengers at Basingstoke at approximately 08:45 hrs before continuing its non stop journey via Salisbury, the Blackmore Vale, Yeovil Junction and through the mile long tunnel at Honiton Bank before arriving at Exeter Central and Exeter St David.
The steam locomotive last passed through Crewkerne in September 2017 and is expected to arrive around 09:30 hrs but those wanting to see it are being advised to get there early, as times given are only approximations. The return journey later the same day will follow the GWR track, via Taunton to Bristol Temple Meads and via Bath Spa through the Avon Valley, rejoining its outward route at Wilton and heading back to London along the West of England main line. A spokesperson for UK Rail Tours confirmed that tickets for the steam tour are still available but said: “Forays to the West with 35028 Clan Line are always in great demand.”
