(Free Skate Jam/Dinnington Ride)
This summer’s Skate Jam for youngsters in Crewkerne, takes place at Happy Valley Park on Wednesday August 21st from 4 pm until 7 pm. The free event, supported by funding from South Somerset District Council, will include a demonstration from the Wave Games team in Taunton and competitions with prizes for Skateboard, BMX and Scooter. A spokesman for Young Somerset said: “A series of four informal skate jams are being held at Crewkerne, Somerton, Milborne Port and Yeovil, to encourage youngsters to get out and use their local skate parks.”
Young Somerset is the largest youth work charity in Somerset. The not for profit organisation was formerly known as Somerset Rural Youth Project but changed its name in October last year, to reflect the broader spectrum of its work and its mission to put young people first. A consent form must be completed and signed by a parent/guardian to enter a competition, email firstname.lastname@example.org

Organisers of this year’s Dinnington Ride are hoping for fine weather, as horse riders were deterred from taking part last year due to the heavy rain fall. The annual event, now in its 39th year, takes place in a field close to the Dinnington Docks pub near Hinton St George, TA17 8SX on Sunday August 25th. It is being organised by the Rotary Club of Crewkerne and the Rotary Club of Crewkerne District Trust and sponsored by Sweet Images Photography, with the principle beneficiary being Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance.
The circular route across picturesque farmland, woodland and parkland with very little riding on the country roads is approximately 12 miles long. There is also a shorter course available of approximately six miles. The event will be well signposted and offers plenty of parking spaces for horse boxes and lorries. Riders will set off between 9.30 am and 11.30 am but slow riders or those who wish to walk the route, are asked to start no later than 10 am. Rosettes will be presented to everyone who completes the route and refreshments are available. Registration on the day costs £15. Riders under 14 years of age must be accompanied by an adult and all riders must ensure that their public liability insurance is up to date.
