GARDEN COMPETITION PROVIDES COLOURFUL AND ENJOYABLE MORNING FOR JUDGES

The garden competition, organised by Crewkerne In Bloom in conjunction with the towns entry in South West in Bloom, provided a colourful and enjoyable morning for the judges. Members of the CIB committee were given the opportunity to look into gardens that they otherwise would not have seen and choosing the top three in each class was not an easy task, due to the high standard of the entries. The Front of House class was split into two sections, one for a front garden and the other for a front of house collection of pots, troughs and baskets.

The winners in the first section were 1) Jennifer Armstrong, 2) Pat Down, 3) Paul Markham. In the second section, the winners were 1) Jan Nathan and Irene McDonnell, 2) Mr and Mrs Welch, 3) Ian Pendlebury. In the window box class, the winners were 1) Mr and Mrs Welch, 2) Janet Rushton, 3) Barbara Everett and in the hanging basket class, the winner was Janet Rushton with Barbara Everett in second place. A spokesperson for Crewkerne In Bloom said: “We are very grateful to Brimsmore Gardens in Yeovil for kindly donating vouchers for the prize winners and would like to thank those who entered the competition. Due to the interest and number of entries, we will be able to justify bringing in someone from outside to do the judging next year.”

Work never stops for the CIB volunteers, who would be delighted to welcome more local people on board, to help with watering the hanging baskets and planters in Crewkerne town centre, gardening duties throughout the seasons and all year round administration tasks.
