Popular and well known professional artist, David Brackston, has passed away at the age of 83 years. David and his wife Diana came to live in Crewkerne 17 years ago, where they made many friends and created treasured memories with the local community. Our reporter first met David 12 years ago, when he exhibited his work at the Roundham home of author and retired vet Malcolm Welshman. Ana recalls a tip that David gave her on creating clearer photographs of paintings in glass frames, a tip that has proved invaluable over the years.
In 2017, David officially opened an art and craft exhibition in the former Budgens store and later the same year he exhibited his masterpieces at the Christmas pop-up art and craft shop of Carousel in Market Square. David happily posed for a photo with Christine King, in front of one of his favourite oil paintings Blue Cottage, for which he drew inspiration from a small cottage in the Welsh hills, that was once a sweet shop serving the mining community of Merthyr Tydfil.
David Brackston passed away peacefully, after a long illness, at his home in North Street on September 7th. David’s daughter-in-law Chris, who lives with David’s son Trevor in the USA said :”We have been fortunate to visit this lovely town at least twice a year.” David will be laid to rest at a private family cremation tomorrow. Our thoughts and condolences are with David’s family at this time.
