Children at Jigsaw Preschool learned about Autumn on a welly walk to Bincombe Beeches. The youngsters enjoyed seeing the season’s russet tones in the trees and hedgerows and picked berries, whose colours looked even more vibrant with the sun shining on them. The young children also enjoyed throwing the sycamore seeds into the air and watching them come down, which they said “looked like helicopters landing.” They identified fungi growing on an old dead tree and collected acorns and nuts along with the berries, to sort and identify later back at the classroom. The preschool children were pleased that a ladybird came to see them and noticed a squirrel, that was well camouflaged in a tree. Before leaving the Nature Reserve, they enjoyed a snack and stopped off at Henhayes field on their way back for some more fun, returning to Jigsaw Preschool’s classroom with a hearty appetite and ready for their lunch.
