Ladies from Severalls Jubilee Bowls Club, whose Green is now closed until the new bowling season begins in 2020, hosted a coffee morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support at the Heritage Centre in Crewkerne Museum. The Crafty Girls, as they call themselves, produced a wonderful display of homemade cakes for sale and served teas and coffees. A steady flow of customers supported their charity fundraising event which raised £155.00 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Crewkerne AWareness welcomes author Peter Knight with his new book, Albion Dreamtime – Re-enchanting the Isle of Dragons, at this month’s meeting on Monday October 21st. Guest speaker Peter Knight is a guide and explorer of sacred sites, who has extensively researched many spiritual places in the British Isles and written 11 books, based on his personal experiences and findings. Peter’s power-point presentation for the spiritual group will share his and co-author Sue Wallace’s journeys and experiences at Britain’s magical, natural sacred places across England, Wales and Scotland where they re-enchanted the energies by chanting, dowsing, drumming and meditating in fairy glens and ancient forests and at waterfalls and rocking stones. Those attending the evening talk which begins at 7 pm in the Unitarian Chapel hall in Hermitage Street, will have the opportunity to purchase signed copies of Peter and Sue’s new full colour book. Somerset Skills & Learning are recruiting for an Apprentice Early Years Assistant to join the team at The Lawn’s Children’s Nursery in Crewkerne. Key tasks will involve; setting up and carrying out activities with children, supporting children with day to day activities such as meal times and positive behaviour and personal care. Applicants must be over 18 years of age and ideally have five GCSEs A to C or 9 to 4, to include Maths and English. They should also be enthusiastic, willing to learn and of a caring nature. The successful applicant will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS check. The hours of work are 43 per week, four days at the Nursery from 8 am – 6 pm and one day training in Yeovil. Learning modules include communicating with children and parents, safeguarding, supporting children to learn through play and keeping children safe. The closing date for applications is October 27th.
