Former NatWest Bank Sold At Auction/ November Film Screening At Community Cinema
The former NatWest bank in Market Street has been sold today at a West Country auction by Clive Emson Land & Property Auctioneers. The gavel came down at £220,000 when the Grade 2* listed building of fine Georgian architecture and offering accommodation over four floors, was sold Freehold with vacant possession. It is not yet known who made the successful bid for the historic building and the sale is subject to the Common Auction Conditions and any special conditions of sale plus the usual fees. Catalogued as Lot 103 in the auction at St Mellion International Resort hotel complex in Saltash, Cornwall, the building which has remained empty since NatWest closed their Crewkerne branch in June 2018, was advertised as having mixed commercial and residential development potential, subject to all necessary consents being obtainable, by virtue of the various points of entry.

Crewkerne Community Cinema, Film Crew, will be showing The Children Act at the November film evening in Wadham School auditorium on Friday 8th at 7.30 pm. The 2017 film with a classification of 12A, stars Emma Thompson and Stanley Tucci. Based on a novel by Ian McEwan, the story unfolds around a judge whose marriage is crumbling when she is faced with the agonising decision to make on a case involving a teenage boy who is refusing a blood transfusion because of his family’s religious beliefs. Doors open at 7pm and visitors are welcome to attend an individual film for £6.
Tickets are still on sale for FilmCrew’s Classic Film Afternoon on Sunday November 24th beginning at 1.30 pm. Alfred Hitchcock’s North By Northwest (1959) and Bringing Up Baby (1938) will be screened in the school’s auditorium. Both films star British born American actor Cary Grant. Tickets for the Classic Film Afternoon at £8 per person are available at the November film evening and from the LIC in Crewkerne Town Hall.
