HALL’S NEW FLOOR TESTED BY FOLK DANCERS

The new floor at The Speedwell was put to the test by the Folk Dancing group, following the recent completion of work at the community hall in Abbey Street. The verdict of the dancers, “super.” Leslye Stansfield who leads the dance group said: “It was an excellent afternoon and we all enjoyed ourselves. The new floor is super to dance on and the renovations make the hall seem far more spacious.” The momentous occasion was captured on camera by U3A photography group member Jeff Hutson.

Folk Dancers took to the floor for the The Fair Quaker of Deal, The Lass of Richmond Hill, Jamaica and The Leaving of Liverpool, performed especially for a member of the folk dancing group who hails from Liverpool. The Folk Dancing group meet from 2.10 pm – 4 pm on the second and fourth Monday of the month and are part of Crewkerne & District U3A. They were joined at their recent dance afternoon by musician Chris Toyne. Chris plays the piano accordion and is well known on the folk circuit. Chris said: “It was a great advertisement for U3A dancing.” Folk Dancing group leader Leslye Stansfield thanked Chris for providing the musical accompaniment, she said: “We were so lucky to have him play for us. He enjoyed himself too and will come and play again in the New Year.”
