Crewkerne Town Council have arranged a public meeting where the Environment Working Group will officially be formed and the results of a recent survey discussed. Help Make Crewkerne Carbon Neutral takes place at the town hall in Market Square on Thursday November 21st at 7 pm. The recent survey was completed by over 150 people with another 100 plus, giving their views on possible actions, during a public event and in the local library.
A motion was passed by the Town Council in June, to establish an Environment Working Group (EWG) and acknowledging the urgent need for local and global reductions in carbon emissions. The EWG was tasked with finding ways for the Town Council and the wider community to join forces to reduce the town’s carbon footprint. Since September, the Council has been running a survey to gather views on the importance of these efforts and what support there is for a range of different actions that the Council and the town could take.
Councillor Ben Hartshorn said: “This is a great opportunity for anybody in Crewkerne who is concerned about the effects that climate change will have on our community or has an interest in helping improve our local environment, to get involved. We’re looking for ideas about positive actions the Council and community can take to help reduce our carbon footprints. Please get involved.” Anyone with an interest in helping to reduce carbon emissions in Crewkerne, as well as protecting and improving local and global environments, is welcome to attend this month’s, Help Make Crewkerne Carbon Neutral meeting.
