IDEAS FOR MAGAZINE REVAMP AT REGIONAL MEETING

Crewkerne & District U3A member Val Warren, who is also the Avalon representative in South Somerset, joined other U3A network representatives to put forward ideas for revamping the organisations quarterly magazine at a regional meeting. The meeting in Honiton was attended by Joanne Smith, the new editor of Third Age Matters, who explained her plans to give the U3A’s national magazine a new look and welcomed suggestions. Val Warren said: “She was given an avalanche of ideas from network representatives throughout the South West from Cornwall to Gloucestershire which she said she was grateful for and will consider them very carefully.”

Plans to celebrate the 40th birthday of the Third Age Trust next year were also discussed. June 3rd has been selected as U3A Day and the anniversary will be marked with events that include photography competitions, quizzes, exhibitions, concerts, ukulele bands and flash dances. East Devon network representative June Brown was thanked by the delegates for saving the meeting and arranging to host it at the Beehive Community Centre in Honiton at short notice, when there was a hitch with the booking of a venue in Cullompton that almost led to the meeting being cancelled.
