Phoenix Brass Band ended the year on a high note, having successfully finished their busiest season of public performances. The second section brass band, based in Crewkerne, started their busy schedule at the Lighting Up Night, when they played in Falkland Square. The following day, Saturday November 30th, they began their weekend performances at Waitrose where they continued playing festive tunes for shoppers on Saturdays and Sundays until December 22nd.
The popular brass band also performed in concert at Henhayes Centre where they played many Christmas favourites, under the baton of Musical Director David Boorer. The Christmas concert began with Christmas Festival by Leroy Anderson and included a Santa Baby solo by cornet player John Hall and a rousing rendition of Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree by Eb Bass player Andrew Symes. Other highlights included a calypso style Mary’s Boy Child, Christmas Triptych and Sleigh Ride, when the audience were encouraged to download sleigh bells on their smartphones and join in. Phoenix Brass also welcomed guest players Dave and Graham who covered the trombone section.
Phoenix Brass would like to thank all the staff at Waitrose for their kindness and hospitality throughout December while allowing them to provide festive music. The band would also like to wish its members and supporters a Happy New year and are looking forward to more concerts and public performances in 2020.
