Today marks the 20th anniversary of the opening of Crewkerne & District Museum at the Heritage Centre in Market Square on Friday January 14th, 2000. The former town house with its 18th century frontage was officially opened by HRH Princess Anne. Grants from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Somerset County Council, South Somerset District Council and Crewkerne Town Council helped with the restoration costs of the building.

To celebrate the Museum and Heritage Centre’s special year, lots of fun, educational activities and exhibitions are being planned for when it opens in the Spring and throughout the 2020 open season. These will include a puppet theatre, finds day, industries exhibition, art exhibitions and guided walks around the town. The exact date for opening has not yet been confirmed but it usually takes place on the first Saturday in April. Visitors can look forward to many special exhibitions in the galleries and in the warmer months will be able to enjoy spending time in the enclosed courtyard garden with colourful scented flowers, business signs from yesteryear, an original street lamp and other artefacts from Crewkerne’s past.
