Customers who regularly buy provisions at Severalls Mini Market collected money to buy gifts, when they heard business proprietor Nigel Tharby will be retiring this year. Although no exact date is set for Nigel’s last day at the busy retail convenience store in Severalls Park Avenue, dependent on when the new business owners take over, a date was agreed for the presentation. Gifts for Nigel, who enjoys fishing in his spare time, included vouchers to spend on fishing equipment, cash towards fishing licences and a clock. Nigel was also presented with a card, bottle of champagne and a special occasion cake, made by Sara Hill with a sugar paste model of a fisherman and sign saying, Nigel’s Gone Fishing.
Caroline Woodhead, who took the photo of well wishers gathered outside the convenience store, said: “We all wanted to say thank you to Nigel for 30 years of keeping us supplied with essentials, like bread and milk, other groceries, household products and wine.” Severalls Mini Market also provides a video centre where customers can hire DVD’s and Nigel’s loyal customers said that no matter what the business is called in the future, if it changes its name, they will always say they are “popping to Nigel’s” when going shopping there.
