MAYOR WELCOMES NEW TOWN COUNCILLOR

Crewkerne Mayor, Cllr Kathy Head welcomed new town councillor Jenna Roberts at Monday’s meeting of the town council. Cllr Jenna Roberts was co-opted and signed the Declaration of Acceptance of Office, following a majority seven to two written vote. Earlier in the evening, the four remaining candidates for the vacancy, caused by the resignation of Cllr Anthony Vaughan in September last year, each gave a short presentation. The other candidates who had been shortlisted for the position were Bob Bright, Michael Pattemore and Michael Fox.

In her brief presentation, Ms Roberts, who has lived in Crewkerne for five years and is a Retail Window Display Associate at Clarks in Street, said that she was “hugely passionate about Crewkerne and would love to help drive the initiatives forward, working as part of a team.” Ms Roberts studied fashion, styling and photography at University of the Arts London – London College of Fashion. In addition to her business association with Clarks, she also runs a successful online blog on travel, fashion, beauty and lifestyle.

Councillors felt that her experience in retail and marketing along with social media skills, would serve as a great asset to the town and to the council. Following her co-option, Cllr Jenna Roberts was appointed as the Town Council Representative to the Henhayes Centre, taking over from Cllr Charles Aslett who is unable to continue outside body representation at Henhayes Centre due to work commitments. Crewkerne Town Council also announced on Monday evening that Cllr Jo Roundell Greene had stepped down as chairman of the Planning & Highways Committee. Vice chair of the committee, Cllr Charles Aslett was appointed as the new chairman with Cllr Robin Pailthorpe appointed vice chair.
