POLICE APPEAL FOR WITNESSES TO INCIDENTS BELIEVED TO INVOLVE SAME CAR

Police are appealing for witnesses to two incidents, within hours of each other, believed to involve the same car. A light green Volkswagen Beetle, which crashed into the window of a former shop in Severalls Park Avenue, was found to be well alight when fire appliances from Crewkerne, Beaminster and Yeovil arrived at around 12.10 am on Saturday February 29th. The driver was not at the scene. Fire crews ensured that there was no-one in the premises before extinguishing the fire using two breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets and one positive ventilation. The private residence was made habitable for the owner to return and the incident left in the hands of local police.

The same Volkswagen Beetle is believed to have been involved in a road collision in Glenthorne Avenue, Yeovil between a car and a pedestrian at 9.50 pm on Friday February 28th. The vehicle failed to stop and the 69 year old male pedestrian, who suffered a head and arm injury, was taken to hospital by paramedics. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

Police have confirmed that a 30 year old woman was arrested on suspicion of drink driving, failure to stop after an accident and assaulting a police officer. A 28 year old man was also arrested for failing to stop after an accident. Both have been released under investigation. Anybody who witnessed the Yeovil or Crewkerne incident and may have information to help with police enquiries, is asked to call 101 and quote reference number 5220049452.
