FIREFIGHTER RECEIVES TWENTY YEAR SERVICE MEDAL

Firefighter Howard Pitman has received his twenty year service medal. The presentation at Crewkerne Fire Station in Blacknell Lane was made on behalf of Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service by SM Giddings. The ceremony was attended by Howard’s station colleagues, his wife and four children. A spokesman for Crewkerne Fire Station said: “Twenty strong years with the brigade has given FF Pitman a wealth of knowledge and experience which he always relays to not just new recruits but to fellow firefighters, who may need a helping hand with any situation they may face. He plays a massive part behind the scenes, ensuring that Crewkerne Fire Station and its firefighters are always well equipped on the job and its equipment is in the best possible condition, prior to and after use.”

Crewkerne firefighters will be giving up their free time on Saturday March 28th for the annual charity car wash. The yearly event, which takes place in the Henhayes car park near the George Reynolds Centre is in aid of the Firefighters Charity. Last year’s car wash raised £570 in bucket donations on the day. Although the exact time has yet to be confirmed by the local fire station, the event usually takes place between 9 am and 2 pm. The charity car wash in Crewkerne provides a great opportunity to support a great cause and for local people and visitors to get their vehicle washed in style and help the firefighters to improve on last year’s record of washing around 120 cars.
