The network premiere of five short films made by young people in Crewkerne in 2005, in collaboration with Crewkerne & District Museum & Heritage Centre, takes place next Friday at 7.30 pm. The project that gave young people in the town the opportunity to make films about their local heritage and culture, was managed by Ben Hartshorn.
A DVD of the films which came under the collective title of Our Home Town, won top prize in the Young People category of Heritage Heroes 2006, organised by the Heritage Lottery Fund. At the time, a spokesman for HLF said: “This project is both inter-generational and empowering. It shows young people taking control, steering and enjoying their project and taking an interest in their surroundings, the place where they live, their home town.”
Fifteen years later, Ben Hartshorn has put them on Crewkerne Museum’s You Tube channel and will be showing them online for the first time, starting with film 1, Doris & Fred on May 8th. Ben said: “Grab a bag of popcorn and join us online. Friends and family are very welcome and please pass this on to others.” To click on the You Tube link next Friday evening, please visit Crewkerne Museum’s Facebook page or their website www.crewkernemuseum.co.uk
