LETTERBOX DELIVERY OF SEEDS IN SECOND RANDOM ACT OF KINDNESS

The Rotary Cub of Crewkerne District have surprised many local residents, with a letterbox delivery of sunflower seeds. The club’s second Random Act of Kindness, which took place between May 6th – 12th, was supported by Crewkerne Running Club and saw approximately 1,000 packages of sunflower seeds, delivered to householders, chosen at random across Crewkerne.

Sealed in a plastic pouch, the accompanying leaflet carried the following quote by Marie Williams Johnstone of Sunflower Joy: ‘True friends are like bright sunflowers today that never fade away, even over distance and time.’ There was also an important message from the Rotary club: ‘Life may not be easy at the moment and if you are struggling to cope, help is available.’ Contact phone numbers for Mind 0300 123 3393, Samaritans 116 123, Domestic Abuse Helpline 0808 2000 247 and Somerset Council’s Helpline 0300 790 6275 are printed in the leaflet.

A spokesperson for the Rotary Club of Crewkerne District said: “Random acts of kindness are easy to do. Say hi over the fence to a neighbour, put a packet of biscuits on someone’s doorstep or give some spare hand cream to someone working on the front line.” Rotary clubs across Great Britain and Ireland are continuing to support communities during the coronavirus pandemic. The Crewkerne District clubs random acts of kindness have been greatly received and taken the voluntary support given by the Rotarians, to a higher level of appreciation.
