Gusts of wind that gained in strength on Sunday evening presented many unusual obstacles on main roads. Key workers, returning home from late shifts, reported having to drive extra carefully, due to waste bins, recycling boxes and other debris on the roads, in addition to the usual sightings of badgers, foxes and deer.
One Crewkerne woman however was stopped in her tracks by a large tent, which had blown across the road in the Kit Hill area of the town. The gale force winds continued into Monday morning, when the recycling lorry picking up kerbside collections found papers, empty tins and cans scattered across roads in residential areas. Residents acted quickly to help the crew by retrieving the rubbish, which they had put out earlier in their recycling bins.
