Crewkerne Library has announced the winners of its recent poetry competition, which was open to all age groups, with the theme of Happy Days. In the under 10’s section of the competition, the winner is Evie Howe, a pupil at St Bartholomew’s First School. Evie’s winning poem, A Happy Summer’s Day with colourful wildlife and wildflower background is our featured photo. Zoe Killick is the winner in the 10 -17 years category and Ana Collingridge is the winner of the adult section. The three winners will be able to individually pick up their prize of a poetry book from the library in Falkland Square, after the newly arrived books have been quarantined for 72 hours.
A spokesperson for Crewkerne Library said: “Congratulations to all our poetry competition contestants. Our judges had a very difficult time. Thank you to all who entered and have made our library windows look ‘Happy.’ Well done to you all.” Crewkerne Library is busy preparing for when the smaller libraries in Somerset are given the green light to reopen. In the meantime they are running a weekly Summer Reading Challenge Activity through their Facebook page, Somerset Libraries Crewkerne. This week’s children’s activity is an outdoor treasure hunt with the theme of roads and streets. The online clues posted on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday (today) and Friday lead to answers that can be seen when looking in the garden or when out for a walk with family members.
