Community Transport South West is extending its Slinky Bus routes, to include Crewkerne and surrounding villages in South Somerset from September 1st. The community bus service based at Houndstone Business Park in Yeovil is operated by South Somerset Association for Voluntary & Community Action Ltd (SSVCA) and funded by Somerset County Council. The service provides a ‘dial a ride’ community minibus for those living in South Somerset, who do not have their own means of transport, are unable to access public transport available because of rural location, mobility problems or disabilities.
Residents who are eligible for the scheme, can book the ‘door-to-door’ service in advance, minimum of 24 hours notice, to attend medical appointments or exercise classes, to go shopping, visit friends and relatives or as a link to other forms of transport. Slinky buses are wheelchair accessible and all the minibus drivers have been DBS checked. Clients with a Bus Pass travel for free, English National Concessionary Travel Scheme passes are acceptable and those without concession passes, who are eligible to travel on a Slinky Bus can travel for a minimal cost. The new Slinky Bus service covers all routes in Chard, Ilminster, Martock, Langport, South Petherton, Crewkerne, Yeovil, Somerton and surrounding villages in the county of Somerset.
