Crewkerne & District Men’s Shed is set to reopen on Tuesday September 8th, with Covid-19 health and safety precautions in place. The local group which meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10.30 am until 1 pm at 14a East Street, for men and women to enjoy crafts such as woodwork and other hobbies, has changed its name to The Shed and has a new chairperson, Patricia Cooke, who has also become an ambassador for UK Men’s Sheds.
Patricia said: “I am really pleased to take on these roles, it has given me a purpose in life that had been missing since my husband passed away. I would like to give sincere thanks to the sterling groundwork that the previous chairman, Peter Boothby-Smith has done. It’s fantastic to be reopening but we have had to put in a lot of hard work to get here. We have re-organised our space and have to limit the number of members in each session to six and we need people to pre-book their session. Unfortunately, if you are not booked in, you will not be allowed in. Bookings will be run on a first come, first served basis until the coronavirus situation changes.”
The Shed has provided full PPE for every member. Every person will have their temperature checked when entering and the drinks making facilities have been removed, so members will need to bring their own drinks. The Shed also offers a Fix It service to the local community, where pieces of furniture and many other items can be repaired, or wooden items can be made to a specification.
