Severalls Jubilee Bowls Club held their Finals Day on Sunday September 6th, within social distancing and group size rules as set out by Bowls England. The first match was the Mens Single final between Peter Loaring and Geoff Kerr, played with three woods over 21 ends with excellent bowling and close ends. The match was won by Peter by 16 shots to 12. Bowling in the Ladies Single final between Hilary Leamon and Lesley McLaren, produced ‘nail-bitingly’ close ends at times. The final result being 19 shots to Hilary and 16 shots to Lesley.
Tea and biscuits were provided after the first two matches before bowling resumed with the final of the Fixed Jack, between Dave Brolly and Geoff Kerr, using four woods and 18 ends. At the end of the game, the score was 92 to Dave and 78 to Geoff. (Featured photo shows Dave Brolly and Geoff Kerr with Club President, Dave Rees).
Presentations to the match winners and runners up of Final Day, and to the winners of the season’s previous competitions, Club Pairs and Australian Pairs, were made by the club President, Dave Rees. In his speech, Mr Rees thanked Ward and Sibley of Yeovil for their continued support of the club through the donation of prizes. He also thanked club Chairman, Mike Rawe for his ingenuity in devising the Ladies and Mens Leagues, which had enabled members to play bowls during these difficult and challenging times. Thanks were extended to Margaret Robins and her husband Tony, for the organisation of the competitions and running of the booking system throughout the season.
A spokesperson for Severalls Jubilee Bowls Club said: “Following the presentations, an excellent BBQ supper was provided by Sue Rowsell and entertainment by local singer Vikki Starr. This was an excellent event, well attended within the rules and organised by members of the hard working committee.” Due to the new restrictions on social gatherings, which came into force on Monday, the next event planned at Severalls Jubilee Bowls Club, the Closing of the Green on September 20th, has been cancelled.
