WINNERS OF ROTARY’S SCARECROW COMPETITION

Crewkerne District Rotary have announced the winners of its Scarecrow Competition, which attracted a total of 46 entries from private households and businesses in Crewkerne. Judging took place on Saturday September 12th, with points awarded out of a top score of five for originality, imagination, impact and effort. Due to the high standard of the entries which made judging a difficult task, the Rotary club decided to also award Runner Up certificates in the two open categories.

The winner of the private household category, who will receive a cheque for £30 is Culverkeys in Barn Street, whose happy scarecrow carried the slogan, ‘There’s always a cuppa brewing at Culverkeys. Runner Up was 33 Oak Drive with an elegantly dressed scarecrow couple. In the business category, the winner of the bottle of bubbly is Rodfords The Florist in Market Square with their entry, ‘Mary, Mary Quite Contrary’ complete with long blond plaits. The Runner Up is Crewkerne Antiques Centre in Market Street, whose well dressed female auctioneer scarecrow posed with a gavel and glass of wine. Crewkerne District Rotary’s first Scarecrow competition proved such a success in the town, that it will be back again next year.
