Item 9 on the Agenda – Barn Street Community Orchard, has resulted in numerous objections from local residents, including a petition of signatures delivered to the council office. Councillors will further consider the various proposals for the planting of 105 woodland trees and 30 fruit trees on the open space at Barn Street Recreation Ground. The town council has received further correspondence, relating to this proposal, calling on Crewkerne Town Council to abandon their planting scheme at the recreation ground and instead support plans by the Community Cooperative at Lyewater for a community orchard on land adjacent to the allotments.

Other items on the meeting agenda, include consideration of the quotations received for the renovation of the Falkland Square public toilets, recommendations from the Youth Steering Group on the use of the George Reynolds Centre by ALS, the conditions under which the Victoria Hall could be rented out again, the installation of Christmas lights on Market Street and quotation received for this service and whether the Christmas Market should proceed this year, and if so, at what location. Councillors will also receive verbal reports from the County and District Councillors, the Clerk’s report, including any updates on ongoing matters of concern and notes from the pedestrian safety meeting, held on August 13th.
