VACANCY ARISEN ON TOWN COUNCIL FOLLOWING COUNCILLOR’S RESIGNATION

A vacancy for a town councillor on Crewkerne Town Council has arisen, following the resignation of Councillor, Mr Ben Hartshorn. Mr Hartshorn, who stood as a Green Party candidate in the Parish Elections of May last year, was successfully voted in for a four year term of office. His resignation has resulted in the current vacancy which was officially signed by the Town Clerk, Peter Davidson on September 22nd and duly published on the town council’s website, following notification to South Somerset District Council in accordance with the Local Elections (Parishes and Communities) Rules 1986.

A by-election to fill the vacancy will only take place, if ten electors for the Parish give notice in writing to the Returning Officer, Alex Parmley, Chief Executive, South Somerset District Council, Brympton Way, Yeovil BA20 2HT, within 14 days of the official notice being published by the town council. If no such notice is given then Crewkerne Town Council will need to fill the councillor vacancy by co-option, as soon as practicable, after the expiry of the 14 day period. Town Clerk, Peter Davidson advised councillors at Monday evening’s remote meeting, which was live-streamed, that if a by-election is called for, it would not take place until May 2021.
