HELP NEEDED TO KEEP PARISH FOOT PATHS CLEAR

A Parish Path Liaison Officer is needed for Crewkerne. This is a voluntary role working in partnership with Somerset’s Rights of Way Team. PPLOs are expected to be able to clear vegetation regularly from around gaps, gates, stiles, signposts, bridges and at other points where paths might become difficult to use. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and ideally have a good knowledge of the rights of way network in the Crewkerne area.

The PPLO Scheme is supported by Somerset County Council. In a statement about the scheme, SCC said: “We are keen to support people who have knowledge of the foot path network. Somerset’s Rights of Way Team have received a huge amount of help from people who have informally kept an eye on their local rights of way network and advised of problems such as missing signposts, paths obstructed by fallen trees or difficult to use gates and stiles. By joining our Rights of Way volunteers, you’ll make it possible for people to continue to enjoy the Somerset countryside and access rights of way.”

The successful applicant will receive a handbook, maps and a tool kit. The role could be shared, particularly where large areas need to be monitored and if more than one person volunteers for the position. If you are interested in becoming a Parish Path Liaison Officer for Crewkerne, please contact Laura Gowers at Crewkerne Town Council on 01460 74001, email deputyclerk@crewkerne-tc.gov.uk.
