Friends of Crewkerne Station are going online this year to conduct their Annual General Meeting. The AGM takes place on Zoom, Wednesday November 25th at 7.30 pm. Included in the agenda are; reports from chairman Tony Reese, secretary Gail Coleshill, treasurer Mike Tuck, social secretary Heather Sergeant, membership secretary Sue Frackiewicz and history group leader Mike Frackiewicz, the election or re-election of officers and an annual report.
Although the 160th anniversary celebrations of the opening of Crewkerne Railway Station and extension of the railway line from Yeovil Junction to Exeter Central were cut back due to Covid-19 safety regulations, banners were put up at the station and in the town and an exhibition of the station’s history went ahead at the town hall last month, with social distancing and safety precautions in place. The community writing and memory project remains ongoing and FOCS are interested in receiving more anecdotes to add to the stories they have have already received. Membership renewals for 2020/21 are now due, annual fee £10 with concessions available for those who are unwaged or receiving a state benefit.
FOCS have continued their work at the station, keeping to the South Western Railway Covid protection rules, which before the second lockdown had allowed for two people to work on the platform on any day if necessary, wearing facial coverings. The work recently completed included removing graffiti that had been sprayed on the fencing, preparing for bulb planting and renewing the planters for the winter season. Volunteers were able to successfully accomplish these tasks before the second lockdown began. For more information on FOCS please visit www.crewkernetown.org/friendsofcrewkernestation.
