The Rotary Club of Crewkerne District surprised many local residents with a seasonal gift for Christmas. Volunteers carried out letterbox deliveries of Christmas cards and presents of chocolates to randomly selected households in the town, in the club’s most recent Random Act of Kindness. Those who received the unexpected gift were over-joyed and very grateful for the Rotary club’s thoughtfulness after what has been a difficult year for everyone, especially for those who have felt cut off from the community during periods of self-isolation and lockdowns.
The mini chocolates were sealed in a plastic pouch along with the Christmas card and a leaflet with Seasons Greetings, news about Crewkerne District Rotary and the local events it organises for the community. Contact details for the local Covid-19 support team at Crewkerne Community Church and phone numbers for Mind, Samaritans, Childline, Spark Somerset, Domestic Abuse Helpline and Somerset Coronavirus Helpline were also included in the leaflet.
Crewkerne District Rotary began their Random Act of Kindness in April, when mini Easter eggs were delivered to randomly selected addresses in the town. They continued the thoughtful gifts with sunflower seeds in May. At the time, a spokesperson for Crewkerne District Rotary said: “Random acts of kindness are an easy way of spreading a bit of joy, in times of sadness and are easy to do.”
In a recent statement, Crewkerne District Rotary said: “Some of you may have received our latest Random Act of Kindness. It was a pleasure to deliver a Christmas card and a couple of small chocolates, for you to know that we are thinking of you and bring a little bit of cheer. Everyone at Crewkerne District Rotary hope you all had a merry Christmas and let’s hope it’s a happier and Covid free New Year.” To find out more about Crewkerne District Rotary, please visit www.crewkernedistrictrotary.org.uk.
