LORRY DAMAGES OVERHEAD POWER LINE TAKING OUT ELECTRICITY SUPPLY TO 73 HOMES

A lorry damaged an overhead power line yesterday afternoon in North Street, taking out the electricity supply to around 73 homes. The power cut which was reported just after 4 pm, affected residents living in the North Street and Ashlands Road area of Crewkerne. Western Power Distribution responded to the emergency in record time and engineers traced the fault to a broken power cable in the Wynnstay car park.

Call handlers for WPD on the emergency phone line reassured concerned residents that the company had been alerted to the problem by the local sub-station and that normal power would be restored at the estimated time of 7.30 pm. The actual time when full power was restored to the affected areas, was in fact at the earlier time of 6.05 pm and full praise must be given to the engineers and to the call handlers at Western Power Distribution, who were helpful and reassuring, making follow up calls when the power was restored to check residents were okay. Our featured photo taken shortly after the incident occurred, shows the hanging power line in the Wynnstay car park.
