LADIES RUGBY TEAM PLAYER AND FOUNDER A FINALIST FOR NATIONAL AWARD

Emma Nebel of Crewkerne Rugby Club is a finalist in the Mitsubishi Motors Volunteer Of The Year 2020 Awards. Emma plays rugby for the Crewkerne ladies team which she started in November 2018. Emma said: “We started the ladies team with in the region of 20 players, that had never set foot on a rugby field before. We now have 35 signed up members whose ages range from 18 to 50 years, which is quite rare in the women’s game.”

The ladies team player and founding member was nominated for the prestigious award because of her hard work setting up the ladies rugby side, liaison with the community engagement team at England Rugby and her unfaltering commitment to the local club, even during lockdowns, with fitness and team work a priority in the virtual training sessions and ongoing recruitment for new players.

Mitsubishi Motors Volunteer of the Year is a nationwide initiative that gives anyone the opportunity to nominate a volunteer of a grass roots rugby club or wider rugby family. The virtual awards ceremony will take place tomorrow evening on Zoom and everyone at Crewkerne RFC are wishing Emma the best of luck.

Rugby training sessions at Henhayes sports field resume on Monday March 29th at 7 pm for the ladies, Thursday April 1st at 7 pm for the men and Sunday April 4th in the morning for juniors. Our feature photo, supplied by Crewkerne RFC shows Emma with the ladies squad, third from left in the front row.
