SUMMER GARDENING COMPETITION ANNOUNCED BY CREWKERNE IN BLOOM

A summer gardening competition for local residents has been announced by Crewkerne in Bloom. The different categories in the competition will enable as many people as possible to take part, with a junior section to encourage youngsters to become ‘green fingered’. The main categories are for a front garden, front of house collection of potted plants, or a flowering hanging basket or planter. All of which need to be safely viewed from a pedestrian pathway or pavement by the judges. Photos of back gardens can also be entered into the competition and will be judged for the floral appeal and not the quality of the photo.

Children are being invited to enter a home-grown plant or plants in a pot, which can be up to 15 cms in diameter. A window competition for shops and businesses in Crewkerne, with the theme of Colourful Crewkerne, will run at the same time as the gardening and children’s plant competitions. Judging will take place in July and coincide with a visit to the town by the judges in this year’s RHS South West in Bloom competition. Crewkerne in Bloom have entered the town in the Champion of Champions category of the annual competition, following on from their success with Gold awards in 2019. Entry forms for the gardening, children’s and shop window competitions will be available next month. For more information on Crewkerne in Bloom, please visit www.crewkerneinbloom.org.
