Crewkerne’s Mayor, Cllr Kathy Head and Deputy Mayor, Cllr Robin Pailthorpe agreed to serve the town for another year of office, at the Annual Meeting of Crewkerne Town Council. No other councillors wished to be considered for the mayoral posts at Monday’s online meeting and both councillors were happy to continue in their roles during 2021/22.
Councillors also elected Cllr Rob Cottle as the new Chairman of the Planning and Highways and Cllr Pailthorpe as Vice Chairman. There were two nominations for the post of vice chairman and a vote to decide between the former Chairman, Cllr Charles Aslett and Cllr Pailthorpe, who was previously the vice chairman, was carried out resulting in six votes to three. Councillors Dan Wakeman and Mike Best were invited to continue as Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Amenities Committee and Cllr Jo Roundell Greene was appointed as Chairman of the Policy and Resources Committee with Cllr Andrea Stuart retaining her position as the Vice Chairman.
On the Joint Burial Board, the four town councillors already serving, Cllrs Best, Pailthorpe, Stuart and Wakeman agreed to continue. Following a nomination for Cllr Aslett to fill the fifth vacancy on the Joint Burial Board, a discussion took place and a counter proposal was put forward. It was then agreed that the vacancy would be filled by one of the two new councillors, who will be joining Crewkerne Town Council after the results of Thursday’s by-election are officially declared.
