Families enjoyed bowling on the green at Severalls Jubilee Bowls Club’s Open Day. The annual event, held on Bank Holiday Monday and coinciding with Bowls England Bowls Big Weekend, was boosted by the sunshine. Young people tried out bowls for the first time and SJBC reported a good attendance with 19 new members joining the club.
A spokesperson for SJBC said: “It was lovely to see visitors of all ages and some families playing together. Free membership was offered on the day and many club members helped out. Coaches were on hand to demonstrate the game and outdoor refreshments were available. The weather was brilliant, there was a friendly atmosphere and much laughter, so all in all, a wonderful day.”
Two days earlier, on May 29th, SJBC played host to Ottery St Mary for their annual friendly match. Both sides were evenly matched after 11 ends, when tea and biscuits were served outside. The final result, after playing 21 ends, was SJBC 85 shots to Ottery St Mary’s 64 shots. A comfortable win for the home team, whose captain Tony Robins thanked the visitors for an excellent game and for making the journey to Crewkerne this year.
