Entry forms for Crewkerne in Bloom’s summer garden competition are now available from the Local Information Centre at the town hall. The competition is open to all Crewkerne residents and offers four classes; 1) A hanging basket, pot or planter, visible from the kerbside. 2) Front of House – either a front garden or a collection of pots, visible from the kerbside and appropriate to the size of the area available. 3) Back Garden – a maximum of three photos of a back garden, taken in June or July this year. Entries in Class 3 will be judged on the floral appeal and not on the quality of the photo/s. Prizes for Classes 1, 2 and 3 have been kindly donated by Brimsmore Nurseries, Yeovil. Judging will take place on Wednesday July 28th. All entry forms must be returned to the LIC by July 26th. Entrants are asked to please include their name on the back of photographs submitted for Class 3, digital photos with the entry form can be emailed to hello@crewkerneinbloom.org.

The fourth class of the competition is open to all young people living in Crewkerne, up to the age of 16 years. Class 4 will be included in Crewkerne’s entry for this year’s RHS South West in Bloom competition. Young people are invited to bring their entry form and a plant or several plants in one pot, maximum pot diameter of 15 cms to the town hall on Tuesday July 13th between 6 – 7 pm. The plant/s must have been either grown by the young person or nurtured by them for at least a month before competition day. Every entrant in Class 4 will receive a certificate and small prizes will be awarded for winning entries. The plants are requested to be left at the town hall overnight so that they can be displayed (weather permitting) outside of the town hall when the SWiB judges arrive the following morning. All entries can be collected from the town hall, after the judges have left Crewkerne.

A spokesperson for Crewkerne in Bloom said: “After outstanding success in the RHS South West in Bloom 2019, when Crewkerne was a Gold Award and Cup winning town in our first year of entry, the stakes are even higher this year. Crewkerne has entered into the Champion of Champions category for this year’s RHS South West in Bloom Awards and your support will be much appreciated.”We are hoping that the different categories in our summer garden competition will encourage as many people as possible to take part and that our junior class will appeal to local young people. It would also be wonderful if Crewkerne’s playgroups, schools and clubs and organisations for young people could help promote the competition.”
