Winston, the mascot of the Crewkerne branch of the Royal British Legion, welcomed families to the recent Military Vehicles event, held at Haselbury Mill. An outside stall, selling a variety of items, including poppy merchandise, army wear and crafts made by members of the Crewkerne RBL branch, raised £359.79 for the Poppy Appeal.
Secretary of the Crewkerne branch of the RBL, Alice Samuel said: “It was great to be back amongst the community again, raising funds and awareness. Winston, the branch Legion lion, was quite a celebrity having his photograph taken with lots of families and even the local PCSOs! We would like to thank the community for supporting us on the day.”
The military vehicle event was also visited by the Legion Riders, who allowed children to sit on their motor bikes for photographs and RBL branch members, Sandie and Tony Smith, displayed their eye-catching Legion centenary pom pom badge. Although it rained on the day, the inclement weather didn’t stop the community from coming out and having a good time.
