Crewkerne in Bloom are requesting help from residents to spruce up their neighbourhood, before the South West in Bloom judges visit the town on Wednesday July 14th. A spokesperson for Crewkerne in Bloom said: “When we devised the route for the judges, we were reminded just how many interesting and beautiful gems Crewkerne offers. It was certainly a challenge to fit in as many sites as possible with the limited time available.

“We are keeping our fingers crossed for fine weather next Wednesday and need your help with last minute sprucing up, especially litter picking, which will be much appreciated. Why not get together with a few neighbours to help make your area of the town more attractive, by displaying flower pots and hanging baskets outside your homes, to welcome the judges.

“It is great to see the painted bicycles appearing around the town with their lovely floral displays. Community involvement is an important contribution to our bid to bring home the Gold Award, in this year’s Champion of Champions category of the RHS South West In Bloom competition.”

The SWiB judges will be arriving at Crewkerne Town Hall next Wednesday morning and will visit Severalls War Memorial Gardens, Barn Street Recreation Ground, Lyewater Allotments, St Bartholomew’s Churchyard, Pill Box, Townsend Cemetery, Rotary Stone and South Street Gardens, Falkland Square, The George Shopping Centre and Henhayes Field.

Due to Covid safety rules on travelling in cars, the judges will drive independently to the sites outside of the town centre and will follow Crewkerne in Bloom’s leading car. While walking around the town centre, they are very much looking forward to seeing the Colourful Crewkerne displays in shop and business windows, who are competing for the Williamson Shield, sponsored by Humphries Kirk.

Young people, up to the age of 16 years, are reminded to bring their pot plant entry, maximum of 15 centimetres diameter, to the town hall between 6 – 7 pm on Tuesday July 13th for judging. The entries will (weather permitting) be displayed outside the town hall the following day, for the SWiB judges to admire. All entrants will receive a certificate and small prizes will be awarded for gold, silver and bronze placements in Crewkerne in Bloom’s junior gardening competition.
