Crewkerne couple Eileen Mills and Mike Jones will celebrate their 80th birthdays from 7,000 feet, to raise funds for two charities. The tandem parachute jumps will take place at Dunkeswell Airfield near Honiton on Friday July 23rd.
Eileen Mills is taking to the skies to support Cancer Research UK and in memory of her son Adrian, who died of brain cancer. Adrian was a keen skydiver and she has been inspired by him. Eileen said: “No-one was more surprised than me when Mike said he wanted to do a parachute jump as well.”
Mike Jones is raising funds for Canine Partners, a charity that trains assistance dogs, who transform the lives of people with physical disabilities by carrying out daily tasks for them. Mike first heard about the charity at meetings of Crewkerne & District U3A. Mike said: “All charities have had a tough time during the Covid lockdown because they have been unable to hold the fundraising events to keep them going. We are both delighted to do what we can to help these two wonderful causes.”
