The new President of the Rotary Club of Crewkerne, Stuart Prince, accepted the Chain of Office, at the start of the Rotary year in July. Stuart, who is well known in the Crewkerne area, took over from former President, Brian Hellin, who successfully steered the club through the difficulties experienced by Covid.
Despite the restrictions to fund-raising, the club has been able to continue supporting important local community organisations and has made donations, totally £9,000, during the past year. Organisations who have received financial help, include Crewkerne Community Church Be A Good Neighbour, the Henhayes Centre, ARK at Egwood, Pilsdon Community and the Magdalen Trust.
A spokesman for the Rotary Club of Crewkerne said: “We have also worked as usual with the Rotary Club of Crewkerne District in the very successful Dinnington Ride, which this year takes place on Sunday August 29th. As Crewkerne residents will have noted, we were unable to open the Rotary Shop, over the Christmas period last year. However, it is our intention to run the shop again this year and we look forward to welcoming everyone who calls in.
“Running the Rotary Shop is a joint effort with the Rotary Club of Crewkerne District and the Inner Wheel Club of Crewkerne and we are very grateful for their vital support. We also work with local businesses and individuals, while at the same time enjoying the friendship and fellowship at regular meetings and the satisfaction and fun gained from meeting new friends and achieving valuable, supporting ventures in the community.”
The Rotary Club of Crewkerne forms part of Rotary International, supporting major global projects, such as Polio Eradication, rebuilding in Nepal following the devastating earthquakes, Water Box disaster provision and Shelter Box.
